Mark Zuckerberg Admits FBI Pressured Meta To Censor Content Leading Up To 2020 Election

On August 26, 2024, the House Judiciary Committee released a statement and a series of photos on X (Twitter) confirming that Mark Zuckerberg and the team at Meta were pressured by government officials to censor content leading up to the 2020 election. The content in question is related to the Biden family scandals that erupted just before the election.

“In a separate situation, the FBI warned us about a potential Russian disinformation operation about the Biden family and Burisma in the lead up to the 2020 election.”

The Biden family’s connection to Burisma ended up being almost completely grounded in truth, according to the House Oversight Committee’s own findings. The Bidens and their associates have received over $20 million in payments from foreign entities. Zuckerberg’s letter then goes on to state that they regret censoring the story, and have adjusted their policies in the US accordingly.

Zuckerberg’s letter also states that they were heavily pressured by the Biden administration to censor certain Covid-19 content, including “humor and satire.” While it was ultimately Meta’s decision to censor this information, this shows a clear collaboration between Meta and the Biden administration. The letter then goes on to say that the team at Meta, including Zuckerberg, regrets their decision to censor Americans and that they wouldn’t make that same decision today.
